Our Values Criteria

A Better Richmond Hill has articulated the following values criteria as prerequisites when evaluating municipal candidates for endorsement.  These include:

Quality of Life

A demonstrated commitment to preserve and enhance the present and future Quality of Life of Richmond Hill residents by:
  1. Pursuing balanced and common-sense growth that builds a livable city, includes affordable programs and services, attractive recreational and community spaces, and convenient and affordable transit options.
  2. Ensuring that residents’ groups are included in a formal, ongoing advisory capacity to set the direction of sustainable and eco-friendly development of Richmond Hill.
  3. Prioritizing local, high-quality job and career opportunities and economic development throughout the city.
  4. Putting the interests of local residents first, particularly by imposing residential infill limits that maintain current streetscapes and horizon vistas.

Public Safety

A demonstrated commitment to ensure the Public Safety of residents by:
  1. Promoting neighbourhood safety.
  2. Voting to fast-track funding based on the Fire Master Plan and independent recommendations to bring emergency response times and staffing in line with minimum industry standards.
  3. Supporting traffic analysis and recommendations leading to traffic calming and greater pedestrian and cyclist safety.

Accountability, Integrity, and Transparency

A demonstrated commitment to Accountability, Integrity, and Transparency by:
  1. Demonstrating a willingness to consult the community, improving access to council meetings and ensuring transparency regarding council decision making.
  2. Working to ensure that residents are treated with fairness and respect by city staff at all levels, and by improving policies and processes to promote the ability of residents to have input on any decisions that may impact the current or future Quality of Life in Richmond Hill.
  3. Being transparent in executing public duties, declaring all potential conflicts of interest and being transparent regarding campaign income and use of public monies.
  4. Demonstrating a high level of decency, dignity, and fairness when dealing with peers, residents, and the public. Respecting those with opposing views.
